The rundown on this game is like so!!
MECHANICAL CONCEPTS-
Shipping is encouraged. Smut is ok but not a thing that’s ever pushed.
Characters gain hearts, which they track on a page for it. There are hearts for several categories of relationships: you need to be working on getting hearts in at least two of these categories. (Things like a romance, a best friend, a hate ship)
You get hearts by citing threads, and these can be with any CR
If two players agree, their characters can be on a “route” with each other. You gain extra hearts by being on a route. You can route for any of the categories, but only one in each category. However you can have one character in multiple categories if you’re that complicated and attached.
We go full dating sim with this. The way it works is after a certain good amount of comments in a thread, one character can ask another a “choice” with options. Each choice provides hearts from one of the categories, but the answerer doesn’t know which until after they choose. Any time a thread is submitted for hearts the asker must reveal what each answer was. Silly example, Coffee - 5 hate hearts, Tea - 5 friendship hearts, Me - 5 love hearts. (This is really easy to game though. Come up with a better system? Accept that it will be gamed because that’s kind of the point anyway?)
Maybe choices are actually pre-written (at least the question, while the answers are provided by the characters? Sort of like Dangan Ronpa School/Island mode?) And the type of choices presented are affected by the heart collective (see below about chapters). Possibly a little of A and B where there are mod-written that give higher heart numbers and player-written that are like the coffee and tea example.
I guess you probably get something for having hearts. What is our equivalent to hourglasses here that you can turn them in for, idk
The characters are still in their worlds as they access the game through a network. However they can go to a nexus world and each other’s worlds too via the app or whatever.
possibly an age cap: all characters will be within the same age range of twenty-somethings (min 18, max 29) Likely also a cast cap so the game can be more intimate and the mysteries more focused.
Game is updated through “chapters”. At the end of each chapter, the game-wide heart totals are counted for each category and this affects the game’s atmosphere. Possible way to run this as a short-term game. Maybe special additions per chapter for people who are in routes. Heart totals also affect the characterization of certain NPCs, in a sort of Princess Maker-y way.
STORY CONCEPTS -
Mystery elements are at least 50% of the plot if not more. The game has a fun and twee air but there’s often a subtle sense of something not right beneath the surface.
They’re not really in their worlds, they’re in a VR version of them. Or possibly something that at first seems like augmented reality instead, but the point is nothing they do in game actually affects their canon even if they experience canon events and their world will facilitate the dating sim aspects. (This can be really hilarious with people from dark canons.)
A lot of really weird shit happens. Crack events, dangerous drama hurt/comfort events, etc.
We have some clear villains analogous to Mint Eye in Mystic Messenger, but maybe with some motivations that actually fucking make sense once in a while
Maybe some really dark shit like if you don’t have enough hearts you “bad end” (You fucking die) (there would be a revival mechanic though)
There is also MORE PLOT that's been thought up, but it is a secret! To run this game, I will need a few co-mods, as I currently have none. Please tell me if you are interested in any way! And meanwhile, post what characters you all wanna bring to get romanced!!
SOME QUICK GUIDELINES THOUGH. I'd prefer to do canon characters only for this game. Not OCs or self-made AUs. I might be okay with canon AUs. That's tentative and certain things may shift depending on the preferences of my potential co-mods. Still, keep this in mind!
AS FOR WHAT I AM LOOKING FOR IN CO-MODS. I work a retail job with highly unpredictable schedules, so it would be excellent to have people on board whose schedule is more stable for putting up posts. It would also be nice to have people who are REALLY INTO DATING SIMS/ ROMANCE CANONS to help me come up with ideas, OR on the other hand people who know a lot about GAME DESIGN / running a game! Because this kind of shipping game is a really new concept for DWRP and it may take some creativity to ensure that it runs to its full potential. Experienced mods would be super great to have on board, though experience is not strictly necessary. If you are considering co-modding with me, then I love you already.
